Laser Hair Reduction

Laser Hair Reduction or Removal

Laser hair removal is a new technique of removing unwanted hair from the various parts of the body by exposing pulses of laser light that burn the hair follicle.

Laser treatment is commonly used for hair removal and hence is widely accepted by the dermatologists. Hair removal through laser produces effective and long-lasting results.

The primary principle behind laser hair removal is matching the specific wavelength of light and pulse. The duration of the impact is to obtain an optimal effect on a targeted tissue or follicle and cause a minimal effect on the surrounding tissues. The laser is absorbed by the melanin present in the hair. So, if the hair is thicker there is more melanin and so there is better absorption of laser which can lead to the destruction of the hair follicle.

Laser hair removal has been in practice since 1997, and we have been using this technique at Aura since 2014. Under the FDA’s definition, “permanent” hair reduction is a long-term, stable reduction in the regrowth of hair on various parts of your body after treating them with Laser.

Laser hair removal has become popular because of its speed and efficiency. However, the results also depend upon the skill and experience of the laser operator. The choice and availability of different laser technologies used for the procedure also matter. Some patients will need the touch-up sessions, especially on larger parts of the body after the initial set of 3-8 treatment sessions.

Hair growth in the human body has three phases:

Stage 1 – Anagen: When the hair grows.
Stage 2 – Catagen: In this phase, the hair stops growing and starts degenerating.
Stage 3 – Telogen: It is the last stage of hair growth. During this stage, the laser treatment is not effective.

A laser device will solely have an effect on the presently active growing hair follicles, i.e. in the stage called “Anagen”. Hence, many sessions are required to reduce hair growth altogether. Multiple treatment sessions as per the type of hair and complexion are shown to produce the long-term reduction of hair. Most patients prefer a minimum of eight sessions. Skin specialists usually prefer waiting for 3 to 8 weeks for sessions of laser skin treatment.

Understanding the Hair in your Body

You may be stunned to find out that nearly your entire body is covered with hair. As a result, most of this hair is pale and is not always visible to the normal eye. But, as unwanted hair grows on various parts of your body like on the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs, or underarms for girls or on the shoulders, chest, and back for men, it also becomes darker and coarser. This can make you feel uncomfortable and you might want to think about laser hair removal.

Conventional, Long-term Hair Removal solutions

Previously, all the ladies used to opt for old school methods like plucking, shaving, waxing, electrolysis, or chemical depilatories for their unwanted hair. Some of these methods like plucking and waxing were painful.

However, with the introduction of the Laser Hair Removal technique, it has become easier to remove unwanted hair. The Laser hair removal technique is less painful, efficient, and less time consuming than other old school methods.
